Sunset Safari- Videos June 20, 2016

Sunset Safari- June 20, 2016

We start of our sunset safari with Brent who has Bryan with him on camera today.

We are with a very large Elephant Bulls.
Brent said he thinks it is the largest one he has seen in Djuma.
His head alone would weigh half a ton with his total weight being close to 6 tons.

Good Afternoon Everybody says James who has David with him on Camera.
James  is looking for Karula and her Cubbies.
It is quite hot in Djuma today 31C.

James has arrived at Tree house Dam (mining expedition as James calls it)

As you can see currently there is no water. Elephants will come in and dig down to get at water which is under the surface.  The dam is being fortified in case there are floods when the wet season comes.

We pop over to Brent. No updates from other Game Drive vehicles at the moment as it is still early for them to be out with the tourists for their afternoon drives.
Brent is in the Cheetah Cut line.
Not a cloud in the sky and finally there is no wind today.

Pair of Steenbok
Over to James with a Tropical Tent Web Spider
The web is similar to a trapeze net going horizontally. It catches insects flying through in between the branches as well as grasshopper's jumping up from below

James calls Karula's Cubs  "George and Charlotte". Those are not official names and just endearing names Jame's calls them.

There should be official names chosen soon although usual protocol is not to name cubs before they are 1 year old.

James is checking all of the trees hoping that Karula might be lying up in one.
Seems like a quiet afternoon as it is quite warm and most animals are not moving during the heat of the afternoon.

Over to Brent who has just arrived at Cheetah Plains and come up to 3 in a row pan.
One Elephant that does not seem very relaxed. Probably came in from Kruger and is not used to the vehicle sound

Brent still driving. There is literally no grass. Very dry with the drought.

James  is heading to Sydney's Dam. He says he has not seen a mammal and can we please find one.

Over to Brent
Buffalo are meandering down to get a drink. There is lots of dust in the air.

Nice Buffalo Herd Coming Down For A Drink

Also a few Zebras grouped together and all looking intently into one direction.
Brent is going to investigate
They are all heading off now.

Over to James with a Crowned Lapwing

Over to Brent.
This is one of Brent's favourite areas. Lots of  Leadwood Trees.

A lone Elephant Bull moving along slowly and eating.

Over to James . 2-3 Buffalo near the road

Back over with Brent

There isn't an animal in sight and yet Brent says it is absolutely breathtaking to see this scenery and he feels so lucky to be here

Jamie is on leave  and Brent is going on leave on Thursday after the Sunset drive. Heading to the coast for a very good friends wedding.

Over to James

Brent shows us the last ping from Sindile's collar.

Sindile could be in the block to the right.
James might take a walk into the block and while he ponders that idea we hop back over to Brent

Brent is moving along the northern side of Cheetah Plains. Brent wishes Quaratine (Male Leopard) would make an appearance because this is the area that he is most seen.

Back over to James and he is at the exact spot where Sindile collar pinged earlier today.
There are thousands of flies reveling in this heat.

James is going to Buffleshoek Dam in hope that the Lions will come for a drink.

James shows us his "office View"

 Sunset with Brent

Back with James while Brent heads back to Djuma.
and back with Brent who is driving.
Now back to James who is driving onto the dam wall and then he is going to Galigo pan.

Getting dark quickly now and James has his spotlight out.

Brent is shifting his spot light back and forth slowly as he is driving and then
"AFRICAN WILD CAT"

Brent hears Bushbuk alarm calling in the drainage line but cannot get a vehicle into that area.
He and James both think that Sindile is in that little river system.

Brent saying goodbye and he has lost signal.
James is here now driving onto Quarantine clearing.
 James says Goodbye

And this concludes are very quiet relaxing Sunset Drive.
