Sunrise Safari- July 03, 2016

We start  off this morning's Safari with a view of one of the Nkahuma Lioness's who have managed to protect their kill from the Hyenas last night.

Jamie is with the Lioness and she has Dave on Camera.
There is 2 of the Nkahuma ladies here. One is the very pregnant one and the other one is the younger one.

GOOD MORNING NKAHUMA'S

Let us head over to greet James this morning who has Bryan on camera .

James is starting off by looking for Karula and her cubs.

We pop back over to Jamie

The pregnant Lioness occasionally growls at the other Lioness which is normal feeding behaviour. The second Lioness creeps as close as she dares and waits.

As James continues his search for Karula he discusses the legal land boundaries. They are very strictly adhered to. Safarilive has areas that we may travel into and some areas that we are not allowed to traverse.

Both Lioness's are now eating contentedly

Over  to James who is with a Male Nyala. The Nyala is eating Strychnose leaves.

 Back to Jamie

Their teeth work like a pair of scissors at the back.

Both Female Lions are now sharing nicely.

Rest time for the Pregnant Lioness who ate for a considerable time before allowing the other Lioness in to enjoy a breakfast.

Over to James where we see a Ground Scraper Thrush and a Crowned Lapwing

Over to Jamie for a few minutes. She has just heard a report that there is a "load" of |Hyenas moving closer to where the Lioness's are.  Jamie wonders how many a "load" is.

Over to James
We  see a large herd of Impala and as Bryan pans the camera out we have the most breathtaking view of a huge rock outcropping which is Londolozi.

Over to Jamie who had to leave the Lion sighting due to other vehicles arriving.

She did see a Hyena as she was leaving the site.
There are about 7 of them according to reports.

Looks like the Hyena are going to rest a short distance away to either wait for the Lions to move on or wait until more Hyenas arrive to assist in stealing the kill.

Over to James.
He sees no tracks of Shadow.

We see the Male and Female Lion from a Long way off.
Check out the video to see Bryan using the Zoom on the camera.

It is Amber Eyes (Female Nkahuma) and One of the Birmingham Boys (#3or it might be Blondie)

Amber Eyes With Birmingham Boy

Amber Eyes appears to be somewhat disinterested in mating but the Birmingham Boy is definitely sticking close to her.

SUCCESS!

This mating will go on 4-5 times per hour for 5 full days.

Over to Jamie who has seen Lion tracks all over the place.

The Birmingham Male is sitting and waiting for Amber Eyes to make the next move.

Over to Jamie who feels her (wendy)vehicle's clutch is on its way out. She is worried about changing gears but decides to give it a try.  It changed gears without an incident.

But now I think it is stuck in one gear.
Jamie is heading in the direction of camp.

We see some Buffalo but they are hidden in the thicket.

Over to James with the Lions who are now sleeping

Jamie has an exciting update.  Aubrey and Taxon both think the Nkahuma Lioness who had her cubs that were on Torch Wood has moved them to the drainage line between Gowrie Pan Road and Nyala Road North.

That is GOOD news because we can drive there.

The cubs are approximately 6 weeks old and she will soon be introducing them to the rest of the pride.

Jamie answer a viewers question as to what happens during Ranger Meetings.

Over to James

He talks about why Djuma is called Djuma.
It is the sound of a Lion Call in Shangaan.
