NOTES: From Linda Buckmaster with thanks---Inkanyeni's second cub has been found. She was seen with both cubs today! One of them had been missing for a few weeks, and the other apparently hadn't been seen recently either. So happy that both are alive and well and back with Mom!
Sindle Update From Gerrie Camacho- Just a quick map of the young Sindile aka The Wanderer on his last weeks erratic movements, showing most probably the pressures on him in terms of avoiding conflict, rather than finding food.
Just for clarity purposes, his mapped movements of July shows a total usage area of approximately 10 000 ha's whereas the core usage area was in the proximity of 5 000 ha's. people weren't to sure about this from my previous map and asked me the questions in private.
then another thing to keep in mind as I also get these questions posed to me. Funding plays a major role in deciding on collars and the better systems are also much more expensive, the latest technology in GPS collars from the AWT company we have been making use of, are much smaller.
Also keep in mind that the collar actually gives an unfair advantage to Sindile in any scuffle, as it gives extra protection to the vulnerable neck area. which means its an artificial support, making up to a certain extend for experience lost during captivity. The second advantage to Sindile at this stage is the fact that it also adds extra protection, should he get involved with a snare at any time of dispersal outside the reserve boundaries. The last bit of info is purely for interest sake.
