We start off this morning with Brent who has Dave as his cameraman. He also have Jamie who has Jeandre on camera.
Jamie says good morning to the Zebra who are fluffed up with the chilly morning
It is a beautiful full moon on this nippy morning.
Over to Brent.
While listening for a Leopard, they heard lions calling. He is heading that way.
Brent has found 3 of the Nkahuma Ladies.

Brent has lost signal so we are back with Jamie. Jamie says it is very busy at Arathusa so she is heading there. She thinnkgs it is the "Elephant Plains" Hyena clan.
Back over to Brent
Still trying to keep up with the Nkahuma Ladies but they are on a distinct mission and moving quite quickly.
All 5 Nkahuma's are now accounted for. We have the 3 ladies here plus the other two who are off mating with the Birmingham Boys.
Poor Brent has lost signal again so we hop back over with Jamie who is approaching Arathusa.
Jamie is discussing that this particular sighting that we are going to might be too sensitive and to graphic for some viewers so she wants everyone to be aware prior to entering the sighting.
Video Below with Jamie speaking regarding the sighting

Over to Brent briefly as he happened to look behind him and look who is trotting up the road behind his vehicle. One of the Birmingham Males and his Nkahuma female from yesterday (Pair that are mating)
The sun is catching perfectly on his mane and he appears to be swathed in a Golden shimmer.
Brent has lost signal again but Jamie has now arrived at the Hyena kill sighting.
The Kill is a baby Hippo. (The one that many viewers have seen the past few days without his mom)Jamie said the mom would have been weakened because of the drought, carried to full term with minimal nutrition and then had to lacate and probably just wasn't strong enough to survive.
There could have also been a fight for space.

Jamie explains that unfortunately this scenario will be played out again with the dry months ahead and very little grass.
Hippo meat is one of the most nutritious for the animals out here. It is layered with fat and muscle throught. Marbelling.
Jamie said they are being bombarded by the smell and she is surprised it smells so rotten at this stage but the wind if also directly at them which plays a part.
Jamie isnt sure if the Hyena;s killed the young Hippo or if it died of natural causes. She cannot get over how much it smells already.
A viewer sent a message saying that they witnessed the Hyenas kill the young Hippo and that it took them almost 2 hours to complete the kill.
Such a shame Jamie says. Very Sad to witness.
Over to Brent who is driving. The lions have crossed into Buffleshoek and Lex will keep him updated.
Over to Jamie who has now left the Hyena kill sighting as it is very busy with lots of other vehicles. She is heading towards Cheetah Plains.
We come across a Warthog who doesn't appear to be upset that we are stopping to watch. They usually move off into the bush quite quickly but this one gives us a great opportunity to watch him run and snuffle getting at roots and tubers.

Warthogs are probably the most vulnerable due to the drought. They are very sensitive to change. Their diet is so specialized. They are ground foragers.
Brent is back up and running so let's hop over to see what he is up to.
We should start to see birds soon as they bask in the morning sun to warm up from the chilly night.
Poor Brent has lost signal again and has heading back to camp to have the issues resolved. It is a vehicle issue as well.
Back to Jamie
Jamie has found fresh female Leopard tracks.
She said "Hello Karula". Where did you disappear to.

Note: Tingana crossed East into Torchwood about 3 days ago. Mvula was in Nkorho about 6 days ago. He is a dispersal male so he keeps himself in the shadows. Quarantine And Ximbalana have had a spat last night according to Pieter from Nkorho. Quarantine has been tolerated but now that he is approaching maturity, Ximbalana is probably not too impressed with him being in the area.
Jamie thinks it will be very difficult to witness the effect of the drought on the animals over the next few months.
She is traveling in the drainage line and there is a magnificent herd of breeding Buffalo . It is the perfect opportunity to do a VR segment with the 360 degree camera.

Since drive is almost over and no chance of Brent having his vehicle up and running, Brent has put on his walking shoes and will be doing a short bush walk for us.
He comes across an Acasia tree but it now has a new name . "Mimosa". Brent refuses to call it by its new names. He said Australia petitioned that their acasias are to be the only named Acasia trees hence Africa made the name change.
Elephants have stripped the bark off of this tree way up higher then Brent can even reach
This tree will eventually die. As the center section dries out, insects will bore into it and give it a honeycomb effect and will definitely kill the tree.
Brent decides to disect some Elephant dung in order to show us what the Elephant has been eating and how its diet will change with the drought.
