Sunrise Safari- June 01, 2016

We start off a few minutes late as Gremlins had attacked.

We are with James and he has Bryan on Camera
Stefan will be doing a bush walk this morning with Jeandre

James is hoping to find tracks of Karula. Her cubs will be 4 months old tomorrow.

We see a Green Hoo Poo. It used to be called the Yellow billed Hoo Poo

James  has also spotted some hornbills high in the tree soaking up the morning sun

Over to Stefan with Jeandre
 There is a Buffalo and Stefan says you can be with animals like this as long as you keep away from their comfort zone.

Leopard tracks not new going up and down.

 Rusty( Jame's vehicle) is not sounding good.

Over to stefan at an old Termite mound. Looks like it has been used by an Arrdark


Back over to James




Elephants have been pushing trees over on to the road as they want to reach as many leaves as possible

Come to Kimberley hole.  Elephants have dug out places to get at the water which lies below the ground

 James into the hole

 Over to Stefan who shows us how far up an Elephant can reach up into a tree. Uses the tree as a scratching post

He has an old bone and showing us where the bone marrow was contained

Back over to Stefan who is sneaking up to a termite mound. Always be careful peeking in to a termite mound as one never knows what might be inside it

 James has managed to get closer to the Elephants

James is sitting on a log feeling like Mark Twain.

He shows us some grass that he calls "Turpentine Grass: when you rub it between your palms it smells like Turpentine

over to Stefan who is showing us how to check wind direction using a sock with ash in it


 Zebra . Stefan is careful as to not to invade its space



 Zebras remain very relaxed

Back over to James and the Hippos with Terrapins on their backs



back over to Stefan with the Zebra

The zebra have allowed Stefan to get within 10 meters of them. Stefan moves along them but not to them.
