Sunrise Safari - June 16, 2016

Sunrise Safari - June 16, 2016

We start with James lying on top of a Termite mound but his effect was minimized as he had problems with his audio.

Update: Leopard spotted at Djuma Waterhole Cam about an hour or so prior and there is a good chance by observation that it was Karula.

Large Male Kudu
He stands at approximately 5 feet at his shoulder and weighs approximately 500 pounds.

You can  age a Kudu but looking at the twists on it's horns. Each half of a twist equals 1 year of age.

Eating Buffalo Thorn

Beautiful layered sunrise

UPDATE : Sindile was sighted yesterday at Arathusa. Nervous around vehicles so sightings are rare. (Check Leopard Page)
Sindile is currently on Elephant Plains. (Check Map Page for location)

James stops the vehicle and gets out because he has spotted an egg.
It  is a Francolin egg.  Odd place for it to be as it is not in an impression in the soil.

James is still playing with his microphone which should now reside under the brim of his hat.

Over to Brent who is venting about why he has been tardy this morning.
Something about Elephants and Tupperware? And Jeandre and Chelsea being incompetent and that James is the same size as a Baboon.

Elephant In A Tupperware Store?

Beautiful tracks of Karula who has sighted last night bringing her cubs into Djuma.

Over to James
He is driving very slowly as he thinks this might be the direction that Karula has come.

OOOPS!   James  almost swore again.

James stops and shows us his injury that he got while out of the vehicle looking for animals or us.

James is talking to Wiam about their first aid drill and how they failed. Brent was the patient in the drill and had been bitten by a snake and they were to administer air.

First Aid Drill

James has Female Leopard tracks near Philamons Dip. and Taxon is going to come and help.

Wiam put an Impala horn on the vehicle as a hood ornament to bring them good luck

Over to Brent an then Gremlins attack.

Back to James

James gets out of the vehicle and is listening and looking for Karula

James on the game drive channel.
Sindile!! everybody!
He is on Aubrey's road and James is going to be driving very fast.

Ferrari Safari With James Hendry

We cut back to Brent who is now sneaking into the area where Sindile has been moving.
Listen to the video.

Brent Sneaks In To The Sindile Sighting

back to James as he works so hard to get into the area and get a visual of Sindile.
James has not seen Brent's vehicle yet.

James Working Hard To Get Visual of Sindle
Brent in on the Sight as well

Brent said he wasn't trying to steal Jame's sighting .
He knows how hard it is to stick with Leopards so he is helping.

(PUT THIS IN YELLOW- for those who didn't see the live drive, Twitter was completely swamped with messages saying that it was wrong for Brent to move in on Jame's sighting of Sindile. - paraphrased)

Both Brent And James Are With Sindile
James overcome by emotion

Everyone thinks that Tingana is his father.

Over to Brent while James assists Taxon getting into the sighting.

Brent shows us James on the other side who is taking photos of Sindile

Sindile is Gorgeous

(sorry this blog is so heavy video oriented but with a sighting such as this, video tells the story far better then I could type it.

Many vehicles are trying to get into Sindile's sighting so Brent is now looking for another Leopard who someone thought they saw.

Sindile is now up and moving. James trying to keep up with him.

Lost visual of Sindile.

James is manipulating the vehicle through the dense brush.
Even if we don't see him again on this drive, it has been an amazing thing to see him says James.

Wiam is standing up scouring the area.

Over to Brent while James keeps moving.

Brent  reminding us that Sindile poses a distinct threat to Karula's cubs.
Tingana would not only chase Sindile but could possibly kill him.
This is Tingana's territory and he will defend it.
Even  Karula would get quite aggressive with him as well.

Back over to James who once again as a visual.
James is driving a smaller vehicle then the larger guide vehicles so he can follow.

James does not think he can get further in. Wiam tells him to try.
James is So happy!

now our Cameraman (Wiam) is stuck in the tree.

Over to Brent while James assist Wiam in untangling himself and his camera from the Monkey Thorn.

Impala. As soon as an Elephant pushes over a tree, Impala's are there almost immediately to eat the fresh grass that has been exposed

 Over to James

Nice herd of Elephants having a drink.
It is one of the artificial water points.

The Matriarch is slightly concerned with Jame's presence.
James says his heart rate has shot up.

James Heart Rate Has Just Gone UP

Report on the game channel of a Leopard Sawing. (calling)

Brent is checking tracks and if he loses the tracks, he might take a walk.

Back over to James

Karula  has crossed north of our boundary according to updates. No cubs with her.

James talking about the animals at the dam,Impala, Kudo etc and then all of a sudden his voice gets faster and he said................................................................

What Is Behind James

So presuming you have all watched the above video I shall continue.

Karula passed over the road a short distance from James but crossed onto the left side of the road where we have no traversing rights.

It was Karula who was Sawing earlier. (calling)

Over to Brent

Brent has tracks from one of the Birmingham Boys

Beautiful view of the long straight road with the Drakensberg Mountains

Back over to James

James picks part of the Russet Willow and tells us that some people use it to make tea. He thinks it doesn't have much flavour but it does colour the water.

James coming up to the Hyena Den.

We see the female with just her head sticking out. James thinks the cubs are inside of the den and are still 2-3 weeks away from them being able to come out of the den..

Over to Brent who is with a nice breeding herd of Elephants.

Now.. Don't Be Naughty

Over to James

Fork Tailed Drongo

James is saying that every animal has appeared to have hidden in the shade.

 We are now passing Brent

Next passing us is Pieter Braat

And now the entire Tech Team is out and about as well

And that concludes our Sunrise Safari for this morning.
