Sunrise Safari- July 11, 2016

Brent is bundled up with a scarf that he stole from Jamie and he has Dangerous Dave with him on Camera.

We will also have James and Jeandre with us this morning.

Brent of course is hanging half out of the vehicle as he looks for Leopard tracks.
Brent shows us some tracks and viewers tweet or email with what they think it is.
You can see little paws with claw marks as well as a scrape type shape.
If you guessed Porcupine, you are correct.

We hop over to James

Nice view
We see Vultures so perhaps there is a kill that we can explore.

James shows us a Lion track
They arent really fresh as their is dew on the surface as well as tire tracks from earlier this morning so they were most likely from last night.

Over to Brent with a very pretty sunrise

We see a couple of Crested Francolins. One has a sore foot but seems to be getting around ok and is feeding well.

There is Dave who is nicknamed "The Dish". and it isn't because he drops dishes. It is because the Ladies think he is a dish.

Dangerous Dave AKA The Dish Camerman
Brent shows us that the Termites have closed up all of their main vents to keep it nice and warm inside.

Lets go over to James and see the Sunrise from his perspective

James is at the Waterhole and the water level continues to drop.

James is talking about the Nkahuma Cubs we saw on a previous drive and how he didnt realize that he giggled until he saw the video clip. Jamie and Brent both giggled as well.

Of course WE ALL GIGGLED!  Cuteness at the highest level

James is just meandering on at a slow pace and its quite relaxing.

Over with Brent who starts his sentence with "unfortunately". Karula's tracks have moved out of our area possibly. He thinks she is to the South.

Brent finds us a Bearded Woodpecker at the base of the tree and he is very busy tapping away  getting beetles and grubs.

Bearded Woodpecker

Over to James who has something to show us as well.

oh.. There was a giraffe everyone but James said it was Irksome.

James loses signal so we are back with Brent and the Woodpecker.

Back with James and he sees Crested Francolins as well.

James sees  2 Egyptian Geese who are having a family spat

James provides excellent commentary as to what the Geese are arguing about.

2 Egyptian Geese Are Having A Family Spat

Over to Brent who is very excited. He has fresh tracks of Karula. He is calling James to let him know.

Brent drives for  a short distance and then gets out of the vehicle to check Karula's tracks more closely. We all know that Karula is known for her zig zagging all over the place.

Brent gets out of the vehicle again

Brent is going to check 100 meters in each direction to see if she has gone into the block and if so, which side.

Over to James who is looking for Lions.
Poor James is in a spot where his signal is very spotty.

NOTE: Mvula (Dispersal Male Leopard) was at Sydney's Dam with a Female.

Loss of Signal.

Back over to Brent who has walked up and down and could not find Karula's tracks. Then he sees them. He says NO!
Ahah! Into Torch Wood.
He is going to head East because she might just turn right back.

James is heading to Arathusa.

NOTE: The Nkahuma Pride have killed a Buffalo at the Arathusa Dam a few miles from here.

James sees an Elephant with only half of one ear. Looks old though. Could have happened when she was little.

This Elephant is new hear. We have not seen it before. Perhaps came in from Kruger as many do find their way here.

James said he is glad we managed to find something today.

She is a fully grown cow. About 4.5 tons.

Update from Brent: The Buffalo that the Nkahuma's have got is still alive and there is a big battle going on. The Lions are still fighting with it. We are 4th in line to see.
Obviously those guides who first saw it happening are not in any rush to leave so it may take a while.

An Egyptian Goose up in a tree!

We see a Hippo out of the water. They usually only leave the water during the night but with the drought, there is not enough water to cover its body so it is moving into the shade.

This little bit of water is so important during this drought.

We got a quick Glimpse of a Brown Headed Parrot

We have now  moved up to #2 position on the waiting list to see the Nkahumas with their Buffalo.  It is a very busy sighting.

OH WOWOWOWOWOWO~!!!
OH WOWOWOWOWOWWO!!

That is what I have to say about this VIDEO!

 Look What James FOUND!

Over to Brent.  We are on standby #1.
The Leopard tracks that Brent found earlier is Tingana.

With James and 3 Male Impalas

Young Male Kudu with Brent

The Kudu is munching on a Buffalo Rib Bone. Great Calcium source,.

WAIT~!

Tingana makes an appearance seconds before we are going to see the Lions. Looks like Tingana is going to check out the lion kill as well.

 TINGANA VIDEO

Now since Tingana has moved into the brush, we head towards the Lions.

James is at the Hyena Den but there is no activity there at the moment.

Over to Brent with ALL 5 Nkahuma Females in attendance and 1 Male Lion at this Buffalo Kill.

I am inserting 2 videos. (warning-very graphic) The first video is approx 12 minutes long.
